Review: Curvelle Fat Burner For Women: Does Curvelle Work?

Curvelle is the newest fat burner designed specifically for women. Curvelle is made by Isatori, the company that makes Lean System 7 (reviewed here), MX-LS7 (Maximum Strength Lean System 7, reviewed here), and several other quality products.

First off, I should say that I genuinely like both Isatori and their products. With the exception of the new Curvelle, I've tried each and every product they make, and found them to be class-leading in almost all categories.

The other thing I like about Isatori is that they are a company with ethics. In the weight loss / diet pill supplement industry, this is not something you come across very often. The industry is rife with con men and charlatans -- so finding a company that is committed to its customers is always refreshing.

Needless to say, I was interested in taking a closer look at Curvelle... especially after seeing truckloads of the stuff at my local Wal-Mart.

Curvelle's claims are simple: it controls sugar cravings, burns excess calories for energy and contains antioxidants to enhance your health and radiance. But does it really? Let's have a closer look at the ingredients and the research behind Curvelle and begin our review...

Curvelle contains a proprietary blend of 683 mg of ingredients. I'm not a big fan of "proprietary blends," because without knowing the specifics of the individual ingredients, it's hard to assess the efficacy of the product. However, given Isatori's track record, I'm willing to give them a break on this one.

Curvelle contains a refreshingly few ingredients -- Cinnulin PF®, Razberi-K™, elderberry extract, green tea extract and natural, controlled release caffeine.

The combination of green tea (standardized for caffeine and ECGC) and caffeine has been demonstrated to be effective for weight loss (Obes Res. 2005 Jul; 13(7): 1195-204). Therefore, it makes sense to have it in Curvelle.

What of the other ingredients?

Well, Cinnulin PF® is actually a cinnamon extract that has some interesting implications for weight loss. Studies show it can improve insulin function, improve the glucose and lipid profiles of diabetics, as well as deliver other weight-loss related benefits (check this link for more benefits and datasheets).

The improvement of insulin function is of great importance to dieters -- it is the rapidly vacillating blood sugar that leads to depressed energy levels and craving for simple carbohydrates that derails the success of so many dieters.

Curvelle also contains Razberi-K™, or raspberry ketones. Raspberry ketones are similar in structure to capsaicin and synephrine -- two compounds thought to enhance weight loss via the stimulation of norepinephrine (although real evidence to validate this theory is in short supply). One study performed on rodents (you can view the specifics of the study here) did show that raspberry ketones prevented fat synthesis as well as the rise of blood triglycerides and overall, helped prevent obesity.

Of course, the problem is that this is an animal study. So while raspberry ketones do show great promise, their effect has yet to be demonstrated in any credible human studies.

Wrapping up the ingredient list is elderberry extract. It's rich in anthocyanins and antioxidants which have been shown to improve internal health and help fight off the oxidative stress of aging, pollution and so on.

More interestingly however, is the fact that elderberry is rich in an anthocyanin called cyanidin-3-glucoside, or C3G. Preliminary animal studies definitely indicate that C3G shows a tendency to reduce body fat and improve carbohydrate metabolism. Again, interesting and promising, but not yet proven in humans.

So, after all that, what's the deal with Curvelle?

Well as usual, I have to make the following caveat: If you're looking for a miracle pill, this isn't it. Curvelle won't let you "eat all you want and still lose weight" (of course, no such product exists!).

On the other hand, Isatori's product's are some of the few I have little hesitation in recommending. Here's why...
